Located in the heart of Allegheny Commons Park, National Aviary is the only independent, not-for-profit zoo in America dedicated to birds. The Aviary is home to over 500 birds representing over 150 species from around the world, many of which are threatened or endangered in nature. The Wetlands habitati was built in 1969 and was in need of an upgrade. Today, the building is covered with Starphire glass and for the safety of the birds, AviProtek® acid-etched glass was used. This is the third building on this enchanting site which is equipped with glass for the safety of birds, following the Tropical Rainforest and The Garden Room.
